The above-mentioned project, led by the Deusto Digital Industry has presented its initial results in the article ‘Definition of the Future Skills Needs of Job Profiles in the Renewable Energy Sector[1].

The manuscript has been published in Energies, a scientific journal ranked among the top 10% in the topic of Energy Engineering & Power of the renowned Journal Citation Report list.

The project consists of the development of a sectoral database aligned with the renewable energy sector skills strategy to target the future challenges of the industry brought by its digitalization. Smart technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), Big Data, the Internet of Things (IoT) and Digital Twin (DT) among others, will completely transform the renewable energy sector, demanding the future workforce to adapt to these changes. Identifying the future skills requirements needed at each job profile of the sector brought by the aforementioned new technologies is key to ensure competent professionals that will effectively deliver industry demands.

The generated sectoral database contains professional profiles linked to the renewable energy sector with current and future skills requirements. This tool will serve as a reference framework for the creation of training programs to tackle the skills gap between present and future.

Moreover, after having completed this project on the identification of future skills requirements for the renewable energy sector, the Deusto Digital Industry Chair continues to further develop research on this topic, aiming to define the level of proficiency of skill for each job profile.

It is worth mentioning that this project is part of the Aalborg University’s Megaprojects programme, executed thanks to the collaboration among Euskampus, the Cluster 4Gune, and Siemens-Gamesa Renewable Energy.
